ASR002 TMR Smart Angle Sensor--First Look - Duration: 2:44.

Hello.

We have a first look at NVE's new fast, accurate, and simple

ASR002 Smart TMR Angle Sensor.

For a demonstration,

We have a 12-volt, 13000 RPM race-car motor

spinning an inexpensive

diametrical ferrite magnet.

The magnet is glued onto

a hand-drilled plastic hub.

It's not extremely precise,

but it doesn't have to be

since these sensors

have a wide tolerance for misalignment.

The sensor is mounted on one of our TDFN evaluation boards,

and connected to an Arduino via SPI.

There are two outputs from the Arduino:

the absolute angle, generated by

a simple R/2R resistor array connected to an oscilloscope;

and a tachometer PWM output

connected to a meter.

We'll start the motor at low speed...

Even at full speed,

the sensor is tracking not just the speed,

but the angular position within two degrees.

We can misalign the sensor

quite a bit and it still works.

You can see

it has a wide air-gap tolerance.

And the ASR002 reads absolute--

not incremental--position.

So if we cycle the power,

it comes up with the correct angle.

Don't try that with an incremental encoder!

Reading the angle, is a simple two-byte sequence.

We write two "0" bytes,

then continuously read the two-byte angle.

Here we output the angle to the 'scope...

...here we calculate the RPM for the tachometer

Key ASR002 specifications are:

2 degree accuracy;

0.1-degree precision;

Wide magnetic field operating range;

High speed;

Low power;

Full −40°C to +125°C operating range;

and it's ultraminiature.
