Lo hace por diversión, dicen, y probablemente sea así, pero cuando Fernando Alonso se sube a un coche de carreras conviene seguir sus movimientos posteriores.

Este lunes cerró su temporada 2018 cumpliendo con el test prometido: pilotó el Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 de la Nascar y prestó su McLaren a Jimmie Johnson, siete veces campeón de la primera categoría norteamericana.

Aunque conviene subrayar que comenzó el asturiano con las vueltas de instalación a bordo del McLaren, un MP4-28 de 2013 con motor Mercedes que nunca pilotó en competición, porque aquel año aún estaba en Ferrari.

Un V8 con sonido de vieja F1 para despedirse, esta vez sí, de los monoplazas que más le han hecho disfrutar.

Ambos fijaron vueltas de referencia con sus coches y después se los cedieron mutuamente. Entre las dificultades:

para Johnson, acoplarse a un cockpit abierto que le obligó a reajustar la posición de su casco y adaptarse a la alta carga aerodinámica del McLaren.

Para Fernando: rodar con muy poca aerodinámica y mucho menos agarre que un F1. En decenas de vueltas,

Fernando replicó los tiempos de Jimmie con el Chevrolet y el norteamericano hizo lo propio a bordo del MP4-28. Tiempos sin buscar el límite del coche, en cualquier caso

En uno de sus test más recientes, con el IndyCar preparado para circuitos (no para óvalos) en el trazado de Barber, las impresiones de Alonso no fueron del todo positivas en cuanto a prestaciones.

Sobre la Nascar, el asturiano reafirma que entre sus objetivos hoy por hoy no está la competición de stock cars ni su gran carrera icónica, la Daytona 500,

y para 2019 el plan es completar el WEC con Toyota (6H de Spa, 1.000 Millas de Sebring y 24H de Le Mans), regresar a la Indy 500 y añadir carreras como las 24H de Daytona,

manteniendo abierta la posibilidad de renovar con Toyota una temporada más, la 2019-20. En 2020,

el asturiano sí podría completar un campeonato, ya sea F1 o IndyCar. Aunque quién sabe si esta jornada en Sakhir le ha despertado el gusanillo de la Nascar…
