Auto news on Youtube Dec 4 2018

hey Paul what do you have there a programmable thermostat actually Brian

this is a smart thermostat and these have some advantages over your

old-fashioned programmable thermostats and in fact a lot of advantages and

we're going to talk about that hi welcome today handy guys and we want to

talk about this this new thing it's been around a couple years ago a years or so

but several brands of smart thermostats and one of the things I really like

about them Brian is that you don't have to fiddle with some device and figure

out how to program it every season they change the seasons from hot to cold you

can pull out your smart phone and program these things or set them up with

an app and some of them also Paul will have sensors so that you can put sensors

in different rooms of your house so one thermostat is going to read the

temperature in multiple locations that's a key feature that I like exactly I have

a sensor right here so you just place this in a room say that room you use

often and you can program it if you will or set up when you're smart app that

whatever I'm in that room set the temperature for the house and a certain

temperature so when you come home from work maybe and go into your family room

watch the news right you can have it automatically change the temperature

the other cool thing Brian that I like is you can use voice assistance to set

the temperature or change the temperature on these devices right a lot

of people have these home help speakers that you can talk to you can ask those

speakers to adjust your temperature for you or some of them even have that

technology built right into the thermostat that's right and in addition

you know we talked about our smart phone but not only can I use it to set the

device up to change it but remember if I have a my smart phone I can use that

when I'm away from the house so for instance maybe I'm coming home from

vacation I'm an hour away I want to change they said that you know air

conditioning to cool the house before I get home I can do that now through my

smart app that's right so you can just go in there and say I'll be home in an

hour make sure it's 70 degrees or whatever

time you want and in fact with the smart app

I can tell it hey I'll be on vacation during this week please turn down the

air conditioning and automatically turn it up the day I get back with these

remote sensors though they can tell or they can sense in the thermostat as well

when you're home and away but you can also force it to do that so instead of

going into your app and saying I'll be home in an hour you can set up what they

call a geofence so that's a really geeky term but what it means is whenever you

get within so many miles that you can predetermine from your home it'll turn

your heating or cooling on exactly so with the old programmable thermostats

you had to set a specific time to turn the heat off up or down or the air

conditioner up or down now you can set it hey you know maybe your commute is at

the same time every day but when you you get within a distance of your house

okay now you make the change that's right so it can be ready for you alright

the other thing I really like about these is that you know at the end every

month or every couple months if you want a lot of these products provide

reporting on energy savings so you can get an idea of how much savings you

really get by changing the temperature up and down and in fact they may even

give you recommendations on certain changes you can make to improve upon

that that's a very cool feature Paul and it's all web-based so you don't need any

special tools you can just open up a web page and you'll see all of your your

history right there and there's a couple other cool features Brian these aren't

critical but I really like them one is you have a great readout it's just very

simple if you just want to make a simple change on this particular model it's

easy to do and you know there's no you know weird buttons or anything like that

it's very touch interface the other thing Brian is you know this particular

model you you know if you're walking by it you want to see what the weather is

for today you can get the weather for today yes very big enough for a week so

those are cool little things so Brian there are some disadvantages to a system

like this and that is that it's not just a simple old-fashioned thermostat you

actually have to connect it to your Wi-Fi you got to get it talking to your

smart phone app so it takes a little bit of sophistication to get it up into this

might not be ideal for someone who's not technically savvy

perhaps I mean it's not terribly difficult but it it could be a little

bit of a challenge the other thing is that it's certainly going to be more

expensive yes then an old fashioned even some of the programmable thermostats is

going to be cost more sure and if you want to have moldable room sensors each

room sensor yes it's going to be an additional cost right that can add up

yeah they can get expensive you may need some additional wiring to hook it up you

have you may have to consult a professional to determine if you have

the proper wiring from your HVAC system to the thermostat itself that's right

and it's not going to work with like a pure electric system for example you're

gonna need something different for that okay so the other thing is it's connects

to your Wi-Fi that's how it talks to your smart phone app that's how you can

make changes when you're on vacation so there's another system that you have to

have in your house I know most people or many people have Wi-Fi these days but

still it's reliant on that to work for your thermal all of your features so if

you don't have Wi-Fi in your house just rule this out all together I guess well

it'll still work it'll set your Heat you know your air conditioning up and down

but now it's a traditional thermostat that cost more than the traditional

thermostat you wanted talking to your Wi-Fi so you have all the other features

now this is a little mini computer isn't it Paul

yes it kind of is and as a result you're gonna want to make sure you set it up

for periodic updates to guard against any kind of attacks or hacking and to

help prevent that so set it so that it auto updates and in fact the software

that comes with these is very good and they do actively updated itself so that

this thing is protected its secure yeah good so those are just some of the

disadvantages I've personally obviously I have it set up here I think that the

advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I but it you know something you want

to consider when purchasing an item like this so there you have it these are

smart thermostats big difference from your you know your father's programmable

thermostat or something like that we didn't even have programming we just had

a little brass colored thing with a ring you turned it left and right that's

right so these are cool so check them out and thanks for watching the handy

guys

Smart farming en precisielandbouw tijdens de aardappeloogst - Duration: 2:20.

We're at the test field today.

We're now going to harvest the potatoes to determine the yield...

to see if all the alterations we've made have had the desired result.

Yield measurement is one of the main measurements in precision farming.

It's the result of the cultivation season and all the changes you've made in it.

These data are the finale.

They prove whether a certain strategy or technology works or not.

There's a computerised system mounted onto the machine during harvesting...

that charts the yield in real time.

For every three metres we drive, and cover three square metres...

the potatoes are weighed separately and the data are processed in a yield chart.

At the farm a quality sample is taken.

Not only the number of kilos per hectare, but also length and under water weight.

Those quality samples are then linked to the area in the field...

and they get a certain place in the shed.

That way connectivity is crucial, because everything is data driven.

We're standing on top of five metres of potatoes.

We've filled this shed up this week.

By tracking and tracing, and linking plot data to locations in the shed...

we can now see the difference between plot X...

and plot Y and distinguish between them in data.

That way we can localise these separately...

and technically store them separately.

Connectivity is very important.

Outside, with LoRa sensors and weather stations, but inside as well.

The technology and the observations change.

A lot of manual work is now done with sensors.

However, interpreting of those data is still a special skill.

What is Smart Intralogistics? | Kardex Remstar - Duration: 1:49.

Today we expect everything on-demand.

We stream our favorite movies with one click

order drivers with a second click

and request free same-day delivery

from our preferred retailers.

It's taken for granted that stores will efficiently

process return shipments

and reimbursements promptly.

Conventionally, goods and material

have been stored on shelves and racks

which might get extended if required.

However, this relies on having employees

searching products manually,

walking long distances across a warehouse floor

furthermore, shelving itself is highly space inefficient.

Altogether this type of manual picking

is slow and potentially inaccurate.

So what does a smart solution offer?

Smart solutions implement a goods to person process

where employees collect goods at an ergonomic picking area

goods are dynamically stored

with optimized efficiency.

A particular highlight is that

this type of solution eliminates the risk of incorrect picking

and enables real-time inventory monitoring.

Many entrepreneurs worldwide

rely on Kardex to scale their intralogistics and

can count on Kardex to deliver

greater efficiencies and a

solid return on investment

within one or two years.

Singaporeans Try: The Mandela Effect 2.0 - Duration: 9:55.

It ended.

Oh my god! I got it right?

Hi guys! Hi!

Do you consider yourself as someone who pays attention to details?

I like to look at people's photo to see if they like, photoshop things.

Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah, you guilty is it?

No!

I'm a very big picture kind of person.

Yes.

Give me an example.

That means no.

What are some interesting conspiracy theories that you know of?

I don't know the question eh, I don't understand what she asking.

Is it like the one like, you point at the moon then you...

Ah, no that's superstition.

They said in the US there's this Area 51,

where they actually like, contact the UFO, have aliens in the dungeon, Is it?

and then do experiments one. Huh!

Simpsons actually predicted a lot of things in the future,

like Lady Gaga with her cones.

Do you know another term for 'collective false memory'?

Is it you think too much then after that the memory stay there then after that it happen?

Inception!

Based on the name, I think we can infer, it's like...

a bunch of people believe something and then "yeah x 5", like confirmation bias kind of thing,

you know what I mean right?

Or the other term for it is maybe 'lies'.

On this episode of Singaporeans Try, you will be doing the Mandela Effect Quiz Part 2!

Oh, Mandela Effect!

Wait, what are the differences?

Oh, she smiling and she not smiling.

The right side one right, is like 'Aw, I got finals next week, I gotta study',

the left side one is like 'whoo, recess week PARTY!'

Why would they paint a sad Mona Lisa?

Cos she got no brows!

Hey! Don't talk about people's brows! And she got receding hairline.

I noticed there's something different also, you see her hair.

The one on the right right, is less voluminous.

You see like the hair... Oh, that side!

Why you remember her smiling I remember her not smiling?

Because I remember the facts about...

Mona Lisa having like a mesmerising... But I saw the actual picture!

Ok fine, Imma go with your answer okay.

1, 2, 3.

Right! Left!

Left! Right!

Right side.

Huh?

But I saw the actual picture!

Ok fine, Imma go with your answer.

Damn it Janna!

After she bathe, she smile. Before she bathe, she never smile.

It looks exactly the same please! There's only that hyphen.

Oh! I didn't notice it.

Have a Kit Kat. Huh!

Have a Kit Kat or have a Kit-Kat?

Oh my gosh does Kit Kat have a line? No Kit Kat doesn't have a line.

I think have a line leh. No, I think don't have, don't have.

But that dash right look a bit like, edited, because like you see the side got groovy-groovy, like not the same font as the rest ah

Most of the brand logos with big bold font like this, there are no dash on, only Coca-Cola.

But why do I remember there being a dash though?

It's the Mandela Effect~

I feel like, I will choose the one with the dash.

I think it's the one without the dash.

Right. Left.

The one with a dash!

The one without a dash!

Without a dash!

Left. Right?

Left. Right.

You make me happy for nothing!

Is it cos it's zoomed in?

No girl, Fruit Loops and Froot Loops, guuuuurl!

I never noticed like, a double OO in the Froot, it doesn't even make sense.

Yeah, Frooooot.

Frooooot Looooops.

Ooh, Froot Loops!

I don;t think I saw so many like, coloured circles.

Actually what does F-R-O-O-T means?

I don't know, I think it doesn't have a meaning.

But if it's 'Fruit' then like, the parents will buy, cos it's healthy

Okay, hear me out here.

Looking at it graphic design-ly right, the one on the left, the U and I right,

you see the top the curve, it's unnecessary.

Everything conforms to the text except for the...

Huh? The 2... the 2...

Oh, okay I see what you mean.

Investigative journalism, right there.

The trend is, everytime your guts tell you one, just choose the other one!

I'm going to go with my gut feeling and I'm going to go with the right.

Right! You are wrong.

I'm going to go with my gut feeling and I'm going to go with right.

Left.

I'm going to go with my gut feeling again.

Right. Left.

The answer is right.

Okay, okay, I choose right.

Left.

Right!

Are you serious? See brands! Improve your english, oh god!

7-11? Eh, eh! I know, I know, I know, I know!!

Huh, what's the difference?

Oh my god, the 'n'! The 'n'! Oh yeah!

The aesthetic part of me thinks it's a capital 'N'.

The logo on the left looks awkward, with the capital letter 'N'.

You stare at it longer right, this one will look awkward also.

Actually now, yeah, now both looks awkward. Haha stupid!

I see this 7-11 in every country but never have I realised. Yeah sia.

Just now I just go 7-11 know, I cannot even remember eh. Aiya, sian!

I remember talking to my friends about it, I asked them why is the 'n' small,

and then the rest is all capital letters. Is it the way you remember the Mona Lisa also?

My gut feel like it's that one eh. Which one?

The lowercase one. The one on the right?

Why? Why does your gut say that? How come ah? I don't know eh.

I cut out my gut and ask. What the sh*t?

3, 2, 1. Right!

Right!

Damn it, how does she know?

Yeah, actually it looks quite graceful. Yeah because this one is like very in your face right?

Like SEVEN ELEVEN. Yeah, like ELEVEN, like shouting like, ELEVEN!

The other one is like Eleven~ like this. Come on in.

Uncle Sam!

Eh, we got learn this in Econs, last time.

Sir... Sir...

America.

Where is he from?

This is WWII propaganda.

Where the US tried to get conscripts for their army.

As in, I only see it you know where? Like when people want to recruit people all these, then they use.

But how I know! Maybe they use the fake one?

My impression is that people always use the one with the red colour thing. Yeah! That's the thing you know.

Because it's like damn American, so it kind of makes sense for it to have the stripes, I guess.

But I don't think the original has a stripe.

That's my gut. It suddenly looks very silly.

The stripes like, look a bit photoshopped.

Noooo.

1, 2, 3. Right!

Right. Left.

Left.

Yes! Yes, yes, ahhhh!

The final sentence sang in 'We Are The Champions' by Queen is?

We are the champions, my friend

We'll keep on fighting till the end~

We are the champions, we are the champions!

No time for losers, cos we are the champions...

Of the world!

Till the end!

In my head it's just, the last sentence is still 'We are the champions'

This is where I have to admit that I'm a suck-y music person,

because I don't think I have heard the song start to finish.

The answer will be revealed through the video.

Till the end~

No! Huh?

I got it right? Where is the 'of the world'?

Wait, I got it right?

Where is 'of the world'? What the heck!

Oh my god! Are you kidding me, did you... is this the official one?

This one fake one la, eh you all official video please!

Can you read, it says official video.

Oh my god, eh don't have ah?

The fans are being cliffhung?

So how was the quiz? Great, great end to the quiz.

We are the champions, I am the champion!

When things are very in your face then suddenly you are like,

'eh? eh?' Like you won't really take notice of the very tiny details,

like I freaking ate Kit Kat almost every week eh, and I didn't even realise there was a...

Eh, was there a dash?

For all the different visuals were okay, because we were very detailed, we analyse it, we can see

But the last one ah...

It's like I grew up to believe that it's 'of the world',

but there's no 'of the world'??

I don't know where I'm going to put my memory of this,

Wa, really eh. Calm down Zhin, calm down!

Which answer surprised you all the most? The 7-11 one.

It's everywhere eh in Singapore, but you will never notice the 'n' is the small letter 'n'.

Froot. Froot Loops.

Like, since when it was F-R-O-O-T, since when?

That one actually I was a bit shocked, because I always thought it was fruitty loops, so that is out of the question,

so whatever to that!

I feel like everything surprised me eh.

I feel like my life is a lie!

I think what surprised us the most is your inaccuracy level.

yeah, the accuracy of your inaccuracies.

Wa, we can make a shop eh. 7-11.

The shop is called Mandela Effect: 7-11 sell Fruit Loops and then play We Are The Champions,

we trick the whole world.

And then outside they say 'We want you! New staff!'

Bird Geniuses - How Smart are Parrots? - Duration: 3:16.

Parrots are famous for their ability to learn behaviors and sounds.

Like Star here.

[Star listening to trainer talk] Yeah... So Uh

But impressive vocal abilities aside, how smart are parrots?

How do we even measure such a thing?

Let's find out.

Take it away, Star!

[Star] Twinkle, twinkle, little Star!

One great example of the intelligence of parrots is their social learning.

How does social learning work?

One bird knows how to do something, and another bird picks up the skill by watching it perform.

For example, I work with two parrots.

Shyla can spin when asked, a behavior that was taught years ago.

But Ray has seen this behavior and started practicing on her own.

Now Ray can do it when asked as well.

Ray learned by observation.

In a research context, it works like this: the teacher asks me to say hello.

I say hello, and get a treat.

The teacher asks again, and I do the correct behavior again.

Then the researcher asks the bird.

Hopefully, the bird responds correctly.

This is called the model/rival method of teaching.

It's called that because I am the model displaying the desired behavior, and Star is the rival

competing for the researcher's attention and treats by doing the correct behavior.

A famous parrot taught using the model/rival method was Alex, an African Grey parrot who

was the star student of a research lab, whose accomplishments were outlined int he book

"Alex and Me" by Irene Pepperberg.

He learned behaviors by watching lab assistants and researchers.

He learned 50 object labels, plus colors, and shapes.

He could count objects.

Not only that, but he could group those into categories, recognizing that red, green, and

blue are all "colors", an abstract concept.

He could also compare objects using world like bigger or smaller, which is also an abstract

concept.

So parrots are social, like us, and can learn from others, like us.

So are parrots as smart as humans?

It's almost impossible to say.

Certain tests, like "What is 20 minus 5" will have humans looking like geniuses.

Other tests, like "Copy a complex sound just by hearing it" will make parrots look smarter.

[Star] When you wish upon a Star!

We can say that on tests we can both pass, like identifying shapes and colors, parrots

are on par with a 3 to 5 year old human.

Pretty good!

But remember that a parrot flock can survive in the rainforest despite all the dangers

and difficulties.

And even adult humans would have a hard time matching that.

So parrots are as smart as they need to be!

Thanks for stopping by to learn what makes life awesome!

I don't mean to parrot, but you should watch other videos on this channel.

And join the flock by subscribing before you go.

Thanks for stopping by!

DACS 2. What can Smart Home Technologies do for you? - Duration: 3:26.

smart homes can be useful when there are things that work for you that can be set

up and running in the background without having to think about it. The advantage

of having a smart home is to make life easier and safer and keep you living

well at home. The technology we feature in our homes can be a combination of the

things designed to suit our lifestyle that can be updated as time goes on and

as technology changes. Smart technology in our homes can range from something

really simple like automated music that plays at certain times when we want it

to, or something more complex like fully automated lighting security and

temperature control and other features which might be voice-activated. The

technology keeps increasing and the volume of it can sometimes feel

overwhelming, but what we've done here is look at six key things that smart home

technology can do for you. Let's take a tour and see what's possible. Home

control technologies can make it easier to control things in our homes like

lights, stoves and appliances, doors and entertainment systems. Technology can

help make our home feel safer and put our mind at ease. Some of these emergency

call systems are increasingly smart. For example, they'll alert you when someone

has fallen, or a door is opened and someone's left the house or seeing who's

at the door without us having to open it first.

Activity enablement technology allows people to do things they enjoy, like

setting up TV to play your favorite shows, or explore places you used to be

familiar with. You can set your home devices up to wake you up at the right

time, turn the lights on, or let you know what's happening that day. Smart devices

and connected health technologies help make it easier to look after your

well-being and manage chronic health conditions from the comfort of your own

home giving you more of your life back and less time spent on appointments. We

can even use video calling to connect with our health care teams.

Social connection technologies help us to keep in touch with our friends and

family and there are all kinds of apps that are designed to help us share and

connect socially. Many caregivers and partners use smart technology to help

provide support. Smart devices can also be set up to allow a constant connection

with the services we might need, or any other groups and support networks with

like-minded people that we want to stay in touch with. Digital Inclusion is about

making sure everybody has the chance to get online and use smart and connected

technologies. We can adapt smart technology to suit the way we want to

live in our homes. We might start slowly with one or two simple smart items

around the home and then build from there or maybe you're interested in the

complete smart system for your whole home. There's plenty of support and

information out there to get you comfortable with using the technologies

you want to use.
