Hey everybody, this is Matt with CarGurus. I'm at the LA Auto Show, and I'm standing
next to the new 2020 Kia Soul. Anyone familiar with past generations of the
soul is sure to recognize this one. The boxy design is familiar but
substantially evolved. Narrower headlights highlight the front, this
blacked-out upper edge of the new Soul C-pillar give it a "floating roof" design,
and there are two new trims, the GT-Line and X-Line, which tailor the Soul's vibe
to your particular lifestyle. Inside and out, the Kia Soul is still squarely aimed
at younger shoppers. Music is a big influence. There's some interior ambient
lighting that's been pre-programmed to match set moods, such as "Party Time" and
"Romance." A big touchscreen is available, offering Kia's UVO infotainment system,
which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2020 Kia Soul has a
trio of powertrains. There's a small 4-cylinder which powers lower trims,
and then there's also a turbocharged 4-cylinder. Thanks to its center-mounted
exhaust, you'll easily be able to identify that turbocharged model when
you see it on the road. There's also an all-electric Soul returning. With a 64-
kilowatt-hour battery, it should be good for a driving range of over 200 miles,
putting it in competition with the Chevy Volt EV.
Whether you love it or hate it, the Soul's boxy design is great for
maximizing cargo space on a small footprint, and a sub-$20,000 price tag
has made it really popular with young urban shoppers. You can go test-drive one
when it goes on sale in 2019, and for more Los Angeles Auto Show content, be
