Welcome back everybody marked with exotic car play place coming back at you

today at the local dealership here the BMW dealership to talk about our BMW is

reliable enough to last 100,000 miles and while a lot of cars you would argue

easily make a hundred thousand two hundred three hundred thousand miles

there are some that probably won't even make near that and so let's take a look

around and we'll talk about a few the cars that we pretty much guarantee will

make it and others maybe that would be a struggle and so the 340 here you

know obviously it's a turbocharged car it's basically the predecessor to the

335 and we know the 335 had a lot of problems and there's a lot of guys that

would say they arguably struggle to hit a 100k miles with a 335

especially with the n54 is because of carbon buildup and turbo issues

wastegate problems leaks and the whole nine yards well we'll wait and see what

the 340 here has to has in store with the b-58 engine we know that already

they've done a lot of good things in the end 55 which came after the n54 which

was also in that 335 but now of course we've got the 340 which is up in power

they've run in more boost but of course more importantly they've done other

things to protect the engine of course a cars like this we've got the x6m of

course here what a magnificent animal look at the the rubber on this thing

the chubby tires underneath this thing here for sure is destined for huge power

of course this utilizes a similar engine it's the 4.4 liter twin-turbo v8 engine

in this car the x6m that you would find over here in the m5 this is the

brand-new m5 and it's just spectacularly beautiful I would expect lots of miles

out of this car - can you get a hundred thousand I think so they've done they've

basically coupled the 600 horsepower all-wheel drive car to an automatic

transmission so the old days of the e60 m5 and the SMG transmissions that would

fail and spit out a lot of issues these cars I would expect to last a lot longer

the gearboxes are good for sure that 4.4 liter is is an engine that's widely used

the brand already so I would expect that there we wouldn't see a lot of issues

with the engine generally because it's just they continually to refine that

engine that 4.4 liter again as I said as in the x6m over there same kind of

engine then of course you have the generic cars like this now what do we

have over here the X30i while this is an x4 well of course these 30 I series

now we're talking about the four-cylinder turbos so can these last a

hundred thousand kilometers I'd are a hundred thousand miles I guess time will

tell when we get you know further down the road why do I ask that question

because the old you know 330s and such they were built with the inline sixes

and those cars were fairly bulletproof other than the cooling system issues

these things here now we're putting a lot more power to a smaller engine we're

boosting it because it's turbo charging and time will tell whether these cars

can hold up with turbo charging we will see so for now do you think it can hit a

hundred thousand I think just with modern technology I think they're coming

a long ways and I think they can do a lot of good things probably will last

two three hundred thousand kilometers just the way they run more efficiently

today I would expect things cars like this to do that

no now we move over here we see a couple of cars over here this one here what

looks like you had a bit of an owie there

ouch looks like he's been down some gravel roads or another I would say it's

a good probability that this one is living a hard life and it probably won't

last they're pushing a lot of power out of that three litre inline-six

turbocharged engines so time will tell but you'll notice beside it here we have

an e90 m3 that happens to be the coupe version which looks very very similar

actually when you look at them side-by-side very similar cars the

headlights very comparable front spoilers aren't overly different they're

actually very very similar the hood scoops a little more aggressive actually

on the e90 then on there that one's a little bit more flat lined the mirrors

I would say the mirrors are a little nicer on the e90 on this particular car

but these cars already we know are a lot like the e60 m5 s where a lot of it

depends on luck a lot of it depends on maintenance and a lot of it depends on

the overall treatment or abuse because these cars if we're abused if they were

abused neglected often you had rod bearing issues often like similar to

what you see in the e60 m5 and so rod bearing issues are a quick way to kill

an engine of course if you have a bad rod bearing spinner rod boom your

engines toast so these ones there's some that can live way over a hundred

thousand miles and others that maybe don't make it a hundred thousand miles a

big part of it with the M cars is how you treat them then we look at this old

jalopy what do we have here this one here I would say likely this was

probably got two three four hundred thousand miles on it I look at the back

pretty brutalized this thing wasn't treated very well and it's probably in

this recent few years but this thing here guaranteed has a lot of miles on it

and at the end of the day that's mainly because that is from a generation when

BMW really did build a lot of their cars like tanks so this car here probably has

a lot of K's but sadly look at the neglect and now it's pretty much laid

out to pasture to die and now there's a new generation of x5s of course you'll

notice here this one happens to be has a different engine in here and all of a

sudden this is the newly styled x5 and there's a lot of great elements to it of

course as you see taillights and mirrors are a little smaller of course with the

fancy light on the side headlights are pretty slick of course an adaptive LEDs

in there those fancy little inserts in there how beautiful is that anyway

what an amazing machine of course quite a stunner and time will tell if this

thing lasts as long as my e70 x5 of course you guys all know I have the x5

diesel and we'll see if a car like this can outlast that I would expect it would

this one being a gas job' newer generation it probably will but

then again who know a lot of the newer vehicles the gas cars

a lot of them are suffering carbon buildup because of the direct injected

engines and that can be a problem too with some of these cars here we have a

brand new x2 very swanky looking little thing actually it has a great little

road presence here it's quite a pretty car for sure this one here is the 28th

so I'll show you at the back this one here is the xdrive 28i so that is the

smaller or the the lower power output version of that 2-liter turbocharged

motor that BMW starting used now of course

pretty fancy unit nice little decal there you've got lots of logos on this

car I would expect these to last a little longer even on the 330 there are

boosted quite as hard probably a pretty dependable vehicle and then over here we

have an absolute awesome machine what do we have here guys this is the m2 now of

course what we have here essentially is a beefed up tuned up dialed in much more

aggressively pushed 240 engines so if you were to take the standard 240i and

tweak a little harder and push more squeeze more boost out of that squeeze

it squeeze it for more power you will get this car the m2 and the m2 is an

awesome little unit look at the flares on that thing I would say this one here

is probably not going to typically see a longer lifespan like you would get out

of you know they to 40 for example

pretty nice actually by the way look at this carbon fiber here and the black and

tailpipes pretty sweet car actually that is a sweetheart of a little car I must

say that might be on the radar too guys I love the way that's thing looks very

short and stout very aggressive carbon fiber inside on the - looks like DCT on

this one

awesome car again because of what its nature it's a very highly tuned highly

tuned straight-6 engine three liters in displacement but it's not the same

engine that you get any m3 or m4 I would say this one has a limited lifespan so

here's an x5 this one here looks like it's been kind of clapped out they put

some sort of extra little spoiler on the front of this tires flat again this

thing looks like it's kind of been left to die here I don't know what the story

is but of course looks like it's in need of some sort of repair you're still a

license plate on it I'm not gonna show you that but it looks like it needs some

work it's probably in here for the long haul I think I've seen this one here for

a while actually and then we have an x1 this is a good old fashioned x1 28 I

pretty generic car I know some folks that have had these and generally as a

rule most of the ex ones have been pretty dependable because either whether

they come in the 28i the 30i or of course the 35i which is harder to come

by with the turbocharged engine in it these the 28 and the 30i's would be a

lot more reliable and I would expect them to last a lot longer well what do

we have over here critter walking in the field there Cars like this the e90s

you know the general stuff the 325s like this one here of

course we have a 325 we know these are good for a lot of miles the e90s the

e46 is the e36 is all of the 325s are some of the best engines and most

reliable cars so these course you can get to 300,000 miles out of these cars

if you treat them right if you take care of and maintain them these will last a

long a long long time same with the e36 here I guess it's really really hard to

tell there's so many factors and variables going into whether a BMW is

going to last a hundred thousand or 200,000 or 300,000 miles

huge numbers of variables of course ultimately the biggest factor is the way

you take care of the car now of course m cars and turbocharged cars we already

know I talked about that briefly are going to have a compromise lifespan

normally aspirated cars typically will last longer but again most of this issue

comes down to a lack of maintenance or not so if you take care of your car your

car will take care of you now I also want to give a shout out in front of my

name Alex he's also got an e60 m5 in his own YouTube channel you make sure

you check him out he's linked in below I just want to give him a shout out he's

got a blue m5 and e60 m5 a lot like mine although his is I believe a little bit

newer but he's got some videos where he's got a dyno run where he did a dyno

run at a hundred thousand miles and he's proven that these cars can last a

hundred thousand-plus miles and still run well with those kind of K's on them

but at the end of the day a lot of you guys have asked me what about this car

what about that car are they reliable I've had a lot of questions in a lot of

my comments you know what about this the 750 or what about this you know 95 320

or you know what about this e46 so and so and this e36 that and

what about all these cars I'm getting a lot of questions on that which I love

those questions guys I would say as a rule again the biggest factor about all

of this is how well you take care of these cars yes there are some cars that

have a natural propensity for failure and that's why I talk about a lot of

these in there's a lot of these videos about some of these vehicles but

generally as a rule good maintenance results in a good car yeah like I said

you'll have to stay on top of some things I know when e60 m5 is a car I

choose to own because I love the sound the performance the looks the whole nine

yards but I've accepted the fact that I know it's not the most reliable car in

the BMW lineup and there's several reasons for that but you either accept

it or just move on and I would say as a rule maintenance is the most important

factor in securing your reliability of your BMW so everybody I hope you liked

it make sure you me a thumbs up like subscribe and I'd

love to see it on the next one see you then guys
