Auto news on Youtube Mar 1 2018

24.7 seconds that's the lap record around the oval

here at Rockingham Motor Speedway it was opened in 1999 and its purpose was to

introduce American circle track racing to Europe and while that never really

took off Rockingham also has an amazing infield

Road course today we're gonna use it to test this the all-new Ford Focus RS

what better place to drive the first Focus RS to be sold in America but here

in the UK my name is TJ Frye as a driving instructor for stage rally

circuit racing and even tactical driving for the US Special Forces my job is to

find the limits of performance for any vehicle

here we are rocking him circuit really enjoying this car actually this is the

2016 Ford Focus RS can to enjoy some of the different features of the car what

I'm finding out is that I really really liked those pops and burbles more than I

thought I was going to

though an American car company Ford actually builds the RS in Germany and

the design stems from four decades of heritage and staged rally which of

course has its roots right here in the UK sport mode I find is a little bit

more aggressive than normal but not by much find that sport mode generally

firms up the suspension a little bit changes our steering feel gives me a

little bit more aggressive and immediate feedback from the throttle but overall

it's a fairly small change however when you do change the modes track mode and

then of course drift mode which everyone seems to know about already you

definitely feel that this is a very aggressive car overall

in drift mode if you turn the wheel and hit the gas the car will indeed initiate

and sustain a slide ban the rear differential can send up to 70 percent

of the cars power to the back and a hundred percent of that power to either

rear wheel but the issue is when that happens there's an inconsistency of

exactly what moment the computer decides to send power rearward to start the

drift you would think that after all the years of development the calibration of

the system would be better while I'm glad that drift mode is here I

look forward to its next iteration if I changed my drive mode rather to track

what I'm going to start to find is that it's changing the suspension of almost

too much it's gonna really firm up the suspension and now you can start to feel

it bounce around and in all honesty I don't know if I like that I feel like it

might be too much for this track

one of the things that I really do like about track mode is that it's much more

lenient on when it kicks in with the driver aids however I really would like

to feel it remove some of those a little bit further it feels like this car was

designed specifically for the weakest link in the chain so to speak this car

was definitely designed with American sensibilities in mind by that I mean

that it was designed for the guy that gets in this car and has no idea what

he's doing it's gonna make that guy look like a

superhero but a lot of these systems are going to get in the way of seasoned

drivers

when I turn all the systems off I'm noticing unfortunately that it also

turns off a lot of a good driver aids for example on corner exit it gives a

lot of the power to the outside rear wheel which really helps keep the car

turning and turn like it has more grip than it really should it feels awesome

but basically what I'm doing is I have to focus on working with the systems

it's essentially trying to teach me how to drive but what I don't like about

that is that it's going to teach people some of these bad habits it's going to

teach people that getting to the gas early is a good thing and unfortunately

in racing that could be pretty dangerous sometimes

unlike the WRX STI from Subaru this car has a very linear power band it doesn't

have a lot of turbo lag it just seems to pull and it keeps going all the way to

redline this is really a car specifically designed to fluster Subaru

owners who have good cars but they're not this good

Oh speak of the devil look there's one right now

it feels incredibly predictable as you're tossing it around admittedly you

do have to throw the car a little bit to get it to really get the sideways action

that you're looking for but once that back-end does step out

you've got to be incredibly aggressive with the gas pedal to keep it sideways

the fact of the matter is we're hammering down around this course on the

infield I'm having a conversation and I really only have to drive with one hand

if I need to there's the back end coming out right there and it's not anything

that I'm worried about you can drive it's a pro position with

one hand on top of the steering wheel and you'd be just fine it makes you feel

like Superman

at the end of the day what I'm noticing is the massive difference between say

tracker drift mode and normal mode on the street this car really is two

completely different cars it's kind of like that girl next door when you're on

the street it's superposed and compassionate and

very reasonable but God as soon as you find out what she's really into she

might surprise you and chances are you're not always gonna like how she

does it

(car revving down the road)

- [Narrator] To me, driving is freedom.

Whether you're driving down the block,

or you wanna drive across the country,

you're in control of where you go.

That's why driving is important.

(car revving down the road)

This car, especially, because my aunt and uncle

purchased it new when I was a really small child.

I remember going for rides in it.

I used to love looking at this car,

and hearing it, and I dreamed

of someday owning it.

Took them a while, but eventually,

they did sell it to me.

The magic is still there when I walk up to this car.

I see that distinctive paint gleaming in the sun,

those chrome mag wheels ... opened the door,

climb inside, smell the vinyl interior.

It's the same cool car that I remember

from when I was a kid.

(pop music)

The color is called honey gold,

and I always likened this to one of my hot wheels

cars when I was a kid cause it

has that cool, kinda custom look to it.

Of course, it has a V-8 engine.

It's the four barrel version of the 289,

and my uncle put dual exhaust on almost right away,

so the rumble, and the sound, and the look

of this car all kinda went together

as my personal fantasy of a custom car.

(car speeding down the road)

(engine roaring)

What I love about driving this car,

particularly on a great, empty winding road is that

I feel like I'm really driving it.

I'm shifting the gears on the

four-speed manual transmission.

It's the sensation of driving it

and feeling like I'm connected to the road.

(car speeding down the roadway)

I remember getting one of my first stick-shift

lessons in this very car when I was 15,

and had my learner's permit. My uncle gave me

some lessons and he was pretty patient,

but I was horrible. We switched seats

and he said, "Let me show you how it's done."

He popped the clutch and he smoked that tire

all the way down the block.

(car engine roaring)

(car speeding down the road)

This is my uncle's pride and joy.

He took such good care of it, he was really good

about all the maintenance, things like oil changes.

When he finally sold it to me, I felt like

he was trusting me with his baby.

(car speeding down the highway)

This car is a connection to an earlier time

in my life when I was just in awe of cars.

It's a connection to my family and people

like my uncle who would teach me about cars.

My name is Dave Kunz and this, is why I drive.

Ford Fiesta ST (2008-2017) - buying advice - Duration: 7:38.

The Fiesta is Ford's bestseller. I think it's almost their number 1 car and it sometimes is in Europe.

They're doing that well. This size car is popular.

The thing we like about the Fiesta is the nice suspension technology.

Ford pays more attention to this than other brands do.

It handles nicely. This is a Fiesta ST, a sporty car. It has a really good suspension.

The cars with the base engines handle nicely too. It's a nice suspension.

It's available with 3 or 5 doors. The ST has 3 doors in Europe.

It's available with 5 doors in Canada, but that's of no use to us here.

There's a rather wide range of engines available. All were naturally aspirated pre-facelift.

The Ecoboost engines came after the facelift in early 2013.

You want these engines for their torque. They're responsive.

There's less choice in diesel engines, but they do exist.

ENGINES gasoline, diesel

2,000 Fiestas are for sale on AutoTrack.

Prices start at 4,000 euros for the more 'experienced' cars.

A Fiesta ST is harder to find. Only 20 are for sale and they're more expensive, starting at 13,000 euros.

However, you're offered some choices.

PRICES minimum, Fiesta ST

The alternatives. What else can you buy? This is a large class.

Japanese, German, French... Everyone has a car this size.

The most important rivals are the Volkswagen Polo and Opel Corsa.

For the ST that'd be the Polo GTI, Corsa OPC, and Renault Clio RS.

There's plenty of choice. That's not the problem.

There can be a number of problems, though. There are things to watch out for.

The base engines aren't very fast in a car such as this.

Keep looking for a car with more power. It'll be better to drive.

For the powertrain there are a number of things regarding the transmissions.

The Powershift automatic transmission has a double clutch.

There were complaints about it in the early years. Check if it shifts smoothly.

It's a double-clutch transmission, so you shouldn't feel anything.

If the manual transmission doesn't shift smoothly, the transmission cables may be the problem.

Something may be up with the clutch as well, especially with the 1-liter Ecoboost.

There were problems with the clutch cylinder, which means the clutch plates can wear.

Check if the 1-liter Ecoboost's clutch is still good, especially if it has more miles on the clock.

The bottom of the diesel engines' oil dipstick can snap off and fall in the oil sump.

The oil sump will need to be removed. That's no fun.

Speaking of the oil sump: the 1.6 diesel engine has relatively little oil on board; only 3.5 liters.

That means the residue an engine generates has to be absorbed by these 3.5 liters. That's not a lot.

Combined with long maintenance intervals and long miles, the oil change has to be done properly.

If not, the engine gets soiled, which can lead to serious problems.

So, check the maintenance history.

The interior materials of a lot of Fords and the Fiesta aren't as nice as in a Volkswagen Polo.

This shouldn't be a problem if you think it's fine to look at, but it rattles more too.

This comes with the car. If you're allergic to it, you may want to look for a different car.

It'll rattle; that's a guarantee.

The ST has a duel-mass flywheel, which is relatively expensive to replace.

I saw a number of complaints about having to do this.

Make sure there are no vibrations in the powertrain, especially when releasing the clutch.

I'll stop for the electronic things. All are small and don't occur often, but they do once in a while.

The grounding of the gas pedal, a loose camshaft sensor, a broken main relay,

a bad connection in the battery and fuse box, a sticky cooling fan relay...

All these electronic things can happen.

A thing with the battery: Fiestas don't like a battery below 11 Volts.

You get problems like the car unlocking itself, frozen time on the display, things like that.

If this happens, you could charge the battery or replace it. Batteries don't last forever.

The ST is a car to tune. It has a lot of potential.

Stock it has 180 hp. A chip will take it to 222 hp, but there are cars with more than 400 hp.

Indeed, that's a lot from a 1.6. Different turbos and a different price tag.

Check with tuning who did it and the tuner's reputation.

A Ford tuner is preferable. Those are the best.

We found this pretty bright orange Fiesta ST at Benderooy in Sint Philipsland.

Hi Friends!

Today is March 1, it should be spring

But winter does not want to leave, we have a lot of snow outside and it's very cold

An hour earlier the temperature was -12° Celsius

At this time the outside temperature is -9° Celsius

Now I'll try to see how easy starts the 1.6HDI Peugeot engine at -9 ° Celsius

First we switch ON for twice times

To heat the Incandescent Spark Plugs

We see a coil that shows us that spark plugs work

And now we start the engine

Let's see how the engine starts from outside

At this temperature the engine starts easier

I am sure there are also much lower temperatures, there is the real starting test for a diesel engine

Storage space in the Jeep can be a bit scarce.

Smittybilt will solve that problem with the G.E.A.R. front seat covers for all year Wranglers.

This will double-up on providing some great protection to your Jeep's factory seats and

provide many storage options for your off-road adventures or even if you just wanna be prepared

for your everyday adventures.

Not to mention, this seat cover gives a very military-style look, and just looks bad-ass,

making a difference on your Jeep's interior.

I think the military guys are really gonna like this one a lot since you can attach all

of your existing pouches that you may have.

Seat covers are always an easy install, so this gets a one outta three wrenches on the

difficulty meter from me, and I'll tell you guys more about that in just a moment.

These seat covers not only look tough, they are tough.

These are made of a 600-denier poly fabric and lined with PVC liner that makes them strong

and durable and, most importantly, it makes them waterproof.

The fabric, being polyester material, will not be as spongey or as comfortable as some

of the neoprene seat covers out there, but this does have a pretty comfortable feel to

it.

This seat cover will provide some pretty good protection.

And even though it doesn't cover the full seat all around, it does do a good job at

covering all the places that you'll be sitting.

There are heavy-duty thick velcro straps that attach around the side and loop through a

hoop system, which makes it good for adjustment and easy install and removal.

These will make sure that you get a tight fit every time and that the seat cover doesn't

shift around when you're getting in and out of the Jeep.

For the storage in the back, there are seven total attachments that come with this cover,

but there are a lot of other options out there.

You can attach them to the back and there's even an option for attaching the pouches on

the side.

And like I said before, if you have a backpack that uses MOLLE or PALS-style attachment systems,

then you can remove them from the cover and attach them to your backpack, or vice versa.

These covers also come in tan and green options, as well as the black, so you have a choice

for your style.

There's really nothing like this on the site right now.

They're listed at right around $110 at the moment and I think the only drawback that

you can take outta this is that it's sold individually and not in a pair.

But you do have to keep in mind that you're not just getting a seat cover here.

You have a lot of other options on what you can store and use in the back of the seat

cover.

We do have other options for a seat cover vest that come in a pair, but they have smaller

pockets on the back, they're a less durable material, and they don't have as many options

for storage systems and attachment systems.

Overall, there are not too many of these specific storage covers on the site, making it a more

unique cover to have.

Install, like I said before, is a breeze at 1 outta 3 wrenches, so give yourself about

10 to 15 minutes to get this seat cover fully installed.

Really, all you have to do is lay the cover over the seat and Velcro the sides through

the loop and pat it down.

Then put the bottom portion over the seat and attach all the hooks underneath.

After that, you can attach all of your pouches, and you're all set.

So, if you're looking for some bad-ass storage and protection for your factory seats, Smittybilt

has your back.

This is Merideth with XT and for everything Wrangler, keep it right here at extremeterrain.com.

In this review we look at WSI's second model for Volvo Construction Equipment.

It is the A60H, and on the box is a few details about the real truck and at the

time of its introduction this articulated hauler was rated as the

largest of its kind in the world. The box has a nice picture of the real

machine on the outside and on the inside we find exactly what we expect. Factory

sealed trays which after a bit of knife work can be opened up and there's the

model protected by some clear plastic and as it turns out there's no assembly

to do on this model, and you know why? Because it's complete, out of the box!

Starting underneath, the heavy axle frames are modelled well and the drive shafts

to each of the axles are included. The wheels are very detailed and the tyres

look good although they are perhaps a little bit on the shiny side. At the

front there are see-through mesh grilles. the lights are nicely detailed as is the

top of the engine cover. A particularly nice aspect is the metal hand rails and

mirror assembly, which also feel robust. Looking behind the cab there are

hydraulic hoses which run to the dump bed rams,

and another nice touch is the soft mud flaps on the dump bed and also behind

the front wheels. Also very good on this model are some of the very tiny graphics

that can be found and they add to the realism. At the back there are nice light

clusters under the dump body and there is also a red locking bar for the dump bed,

but it's not functional.

This model has a high metal content so it's actually

quite heavy, and that helps it to roll very smoothly. It steers by hydraulic

rams operating across the pivot point and that works very smoothly on the

model with an excellent range of movement. So if we're driving the model

we can turn a very tight corner, and if we want to show how stupid we are we can

drive it along in side tipping mode. Well at least one thing this does show is how

good the articulation is at the pivot point. Having demonstrated our absence of

brain cells we can move on and look at the suspension and the rear axles have a

very high degree of movement so any load on the truck gets a nice smooth ride but

the model engineering of the rear axles is also very good because they are

interlocked so they oscillate together. One good test of an articulated dump

truck model is the tipping angle, and on this model the rams have a good

stiffness and will hold any pose, and the angle is very good even if it's not

quite the 70 degrees of the real machine. Another very nice feature on this model

is the opening engine cover, and you can see it is detailed underneath and that the

grilles are see-through and the pulldown section at the front also has a step

which can be pulled down further. On the review model the hood would hold any

pose that was set but there's also a support bar on the model so you can prop

the hood open if you wish.

WSI models have made a very good job of the Volvo A60H. It has got some high

detail and excellent functionality but it's also heavy and feels very strong

and robust, so overall this is another high quality Volvo model from WSI and

it's rated as excellent.

I'm shifting the gears on the

four-speed manual transmission.

It's the sensation of driving it

and feeling like I'm connected to the road.

(car speeding down the roadway)

I remember getting one of my first stick-shift

lessons in this very car when I was 15,

and had my learner's permit. My uncle gave me

some lessons and he was pretty patient,

but I was horrible. We switched seats

and he said, "Let me show you how it's done."

He popped the clutch and he smoked that tire

all the way down the block.

(car engine roaring)

(car speeding down the road)

This is my uncle's pride and joy.

He took such good care of it, he was really good

about all the maintenance, things like oil changes.

When he finally sold it to me, I felt like

he was trusting me with his baby.

(car speeding down the highway)

This car is a connection to an earlier time

in my life when I was just in awe of cars.

It's a connection to my family and people

like my uncle who would teach me about cars.

My name is Dave Kunz and this, is why I drive.

LEGO Speed Champions 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback review! 75884 - Duration: 8:36.

hello everyone this is the lego speed champions 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback Set

been looking forward to showing you this one I first want you to look at the car

with just one sticker on it I felt it was absolutely crucial to put that one

sticker on the front but otherwise leaving everything off helps you to see

the shape and the real build of the car which i think is actually really really

good and very accurate to the source material especially as viewed from the

side and from kind of the quarter angles I think as you get closer to straight on

or straight from the back you see just how narrow the dome is you know the

whole the whole roof section in the windscreen it's all four studs white

which is a major contrast against the six stud wide base but from most angles

I think it looks fantastic actually I could easily see rebuilding this without

the white pieces just replace those with green and black and you look like a

beautiful little slightly slightly modified Street car you know it's got

the little bit of hood bulge on there hood scoop which actually looks great

with that Nexo Knights shield insert piece having

the two openings at the front it almost looks like those are air inlets two

separate ones it's almost as if it was intentional I think that the designer

definitely thought of that and realized that upon trying it I think the shaping

around the front looks good the use of the newer style of fender that turns

under and doesn't go straight down at the widest points is crucial works out

great for this car will probably work out great for many other cars from this

era as well so much of this is done well oh yeah the logo on the back here that's

great that's not a sticker told you I put only one sticker on this that is a

print and they'll give you two of those in the set officially one but you know

it's a one by one piece a plate so they do give you spare that's

a that's a real treat to get that as a as a prince rather than a sticker

because you know they've been doing one by one stickers on a bunch of the cars

in the speed champions line but here they gave a sprint yeah yeah I don't

think Lego these days as a rule will do stickers for one by one round pieces at

least not anymore I've seen them do a lot of interesting one-off or limited

production prints for those but before I put the stickers back on we just open

this up let you see that this has the tan interior and just the brown seat no

console or anything but just a steering wheel it is a little bit open towards

the rear which lets you see inside there a bit I don't mind it I think it's okay

alright I'll put the stickers on so yeah it's it's not entirely transformative

but I felt that the the stripes and the extra graphics kind of distracted a bit

from shape but these are pretty tasteful they went for a an old classic Trans Am

kind of kind of suggestion of of graphics here and I think they did a

pretty good job nice choices of colors through and through for the whole thing

well the plastic pieces and with the stickers you know ideally the number of

plates on the sides would have been set up in you know nice circles also instead

but I much prefer having the actual build there I have no problem with that

and stripes do go across the roof pretty well not too bad there I like what

they've done on the hood as well big ole a Lego logo they will Ford logo as well

I like the the other like the speed champions and the clutch on stickers

there those are nicely vintage of fide yeah not bad like this I just personally

really like having the option to leave the stickers off especially for a

classic car like this and would have been just perfect if they'd

also included parts to replace these three on each side so that you could

take the the white out and leave the stickers off most of the stickers off if

you want and have a different look instead we get this as the side build

and I don't know this one doesn't really do much for me some of the side bills

that they've done even when they're really small if they have if they have

like a start/finish line set up or a little bit of side of the track a little

bit of berm or something you know those are cool

I appreciate the Ford logo there this does look like it could add something to

a scene if you don't think about it much but if you think about it I mean what is

it trying to show you there is it 94 0.53 seconds quarter-mile what's with

the quarter mile this is a road chorus car not a drank car I don't I just don't

see much value in this personally the driver once again gets the tan

vintage racing suit with print only for the torso and for the face that is

printed on the front and the back I think it looks pretty good especially

from a little bit of distance up this close you see the major difference in in

contrast and I think also the sharpness of the black red blue lines versus the

brown that's in there that Browns just a little bit fuzzy relatively looks really

nice and sharp and consistent around the back and there's what that one face

looks like which is pretty cool good little set definitely clearly made with

a lot of love and some some solid teamwork back and forth a lot of

communication between Lego and Ford and or at least one classic car enthusiasts

probably classic Ford Racing enthusiasts because the combinations of things that

were put together here with the colors the style of the striping with the

wheels also the hood bulge that's probably from a different spec of car

just feels like they brought a few different classic

Mustangs into a single car here and they did it very tastefully and that's that's

not easy to do it I'm not sure it's possible to do that without really

knowing what you're doing without at least doing some research if not having

some true experience with the subject matter obviously a lot of people are

going are going to easily make the parallel between this car especially

with the the green it was a Highland green I think they called it and the

Steve McQueen Bullitt car this is just another similar similar car I think just

a customer car but you can't really make it fully dream without doing a lot of

heart replacements and actually beneath the hood bulge they're bulging or

scooped there are some more pieces that need to be replaced so if you want to go

full on that route do expect to spend some money on brick link but as I showed

I think it looks really good just leaving almost all the stickers off

however I do strongly recommend and wish they had included replacements of parts

to to take the rest of the white out of the number of plates on the sides and

then you get a really nice classic like modded Street model and it's still even

even even having to replace those parts if you want or even not replacing them I

still think it's a really really good little set and I appreciate what went

into it so there you go my thoughts on this set you've seen what it looks like

now I'm gonna move on thanks for watching I'll talk to you soon

you
