This is Hyundai i30 fastback. So, a normal i30 with glued-on butt? And how do you pronounce Hyundai, anyway?
Here are 9 things you wanted to know about the car.
Usually when I start working on the script, I write down my thoughts about the car.
Is it roomy, is it comfy, does it drive well, is it fuel efficient, is the boot big. With i30 fastback, I came to a conclusion pretty quick but I decided to ask you what would you like to know about this car.
Is it practical? I think so. There's quite a lot of space inside, there are compartments, the door bins will fit a few water bottles, there are USB and 12V sockets for charging.
The seats are comfy, and heated – same as the steering wheel.
When I'm making this video, its 20C, but trust me, heated steering wheel is a godsend in November or February.
The boot is bigger than in the hatchback version – it's 450 litres. It's very good, but that's taking into account the space under the floor, on the spare tyre.
The boot itself has a normal shape, there are shopping hooks as well.
The trim level is... nothing to write home about, really. There's no satnav or rear view camera, only the beepers.
I couldn't care less about the satnav, because that's what these big smartphones are for, but a rear view camera is sth I'd like to have.
Especially with poor backwards visibility.
And the fuel consumption? I managed to get 6.7 litres / 100 kms and I think that's the best one can do. That's a bit above what Hyundai promises, but not a lot.
Moreover, I like this engine. Driving is uncomplicated, albeit not perfect.
I'm not sure if it's the gearbox or the engine as such, but quick start is impossible. So, you have to take it into account when merging. But when you drive, it's OK.
Someone asked about the sound system. I really can't say much as I hardly ever listen to music while driving. But maybe I should? Hyundai i30 fastback is soundproofed, but...
During filming, Marek was honking at me to get my attention. I didn't hear a thing. But driving behind him, I heard every noise his car would make. Also, when driving faster, the car is noisy and unpleasant.
If you have a good playlist for driving, put it in the comments, thanks!
Wiper fluid that goes over the car to the car in the back is not pleasant – especially if you're the one in the back and you're in a convertible. Thankfully, that's not a problem here.
[this is about pronouncing the name „Hyundai" in different countries, especially Poland, so it's untranslatable]
Lastly, someone asked if this car is as boring as VW Jetta and would I buy it. Tbh, I don't remember driving a Jetta, so I can't compare these two. But yes, Hyundai i30 fastback is hardly exciting.
I wouldn't buy it today because I'm not in a market for a car at all, but were I to buy an unassuming, decent car to drive around city and on trips, why not?
And what do you think about Hyundai i30 fastback? And how do you pronounce the name? Let me know in the comments. Also, follow me on Instagram – there are cars, food and my cat, Frankie.
